The karate program is based on Tang Soo Do, a Korean martial art with a very long history. Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan evolved in Korea during the 1930's and is influenced by many different styles including Korean, Chinese, and Japanese karate. Chuck Norris, a martial artist and Hollywood actor, earned his first black belt in this discipline. The form emphasizes the physical and mental development of the student. It improves your physical fitness and self-defense abilities by developing your coordination, power, flexibility and stamina. Students practice traditional forms and kicking and punching drills that focus the mind on self-discipline, self-confidence and respect for others. Shawn and Simon Shieh, a father and son team who studied under Master Robert P. Leclerc in New York will be the instructors. Simon, a third degree black belt, has trained for 10 years; competed in many nationally-rated open martial arts tournaments in the U.S.A.; and been an instructor at Leclerc's Martial Arts for the last three years training students from 4years old to adult. Shawn has trained for more than 5 years and is a second degree black belt. He is also a college professor with 20 years experience teaching middle school and high school students.
